From the President...
The Tasmanian Branch of the Australian Medical Association provides a vital role in servicing the professional needs of medical practitioners throughout the State. By our constitution, we are also 'the' prime body in Tasmania representing the interests of our patients and the whole community on health issues.
We provide vital industrial representation for medical practitioners employed in the State's public hospital system whether salaried or visiting medical practitioners, and also doctors providing services in community health centres in the rural and remote parts of the State.
For doctors engaged in private practice, industrial services are also available to deal with human resource issues involving clinical, nursing and administrative staff within those individual practices.
The AMA provides vital representation with Government both at the Federal and State level, providing a voice for the medical profession and the community on a vast range of key health and related policy issues affecting medical practitioners and their patients. The processes followed by the Tasmanian AMA facilitate and encourage active participation and communication with the Government on those vital issues of concern to the medical profession: our pressure has led to the development of clinical service plans and to the promise of a new tertiary hospital in Hobart.
The AMA has also worked energetically to develop a significant range of membership services, providing a special dividend for members utilising any of the number of preferred provider arrangements. These include superannuation and financial services, banking services, telecommunications, travel and accommodation, motor vehicle purchase, and retail concessions through a wide variety of products.
The AMA has no political affiliation and is recognised by all sides of politics and the community as a credible, diligent and hardworking advocate for the needs of the medical profession and the patients we serve.
I encourage members of the medical profession to be active in the AMA and take full advantage of the professional benefits and commercial opportunities which will arise there from. We can influence the future!
